Watch NBC10 Boston interview with Christine A. Dorchak

Brooklyn Goes Home is the story of the rise and fall of commercial greyhound racing in the United States and an account of how one small non-profit emerged to make an impact. It is also a remembrance of three glorious years spent with a magical dog who sparked a movement to end dog racing across the globe.

Brooklyn Goes Home is about human love and compassion on the one hand and callousness and cruelty on the other. It’s also the incredible account of how two brave and committed people successfully fought against a shameless, yet powerful, industry. Christine and Carey had little more than a belief in themselves and a shared love for their greyhound Brooklyn, but their determination has paid off for thousands of other dogs in the United States and worldwide. My greyhound and I recommend you read this stunning memoir!

open-quote

I cried as I read the last chapter and afterword of this book; Brooklyn’s story is incredibly moving. From an horrific start in life, he had only a few years in the sun after he was rescued—I wish he’d had more. Brooklyn’s story symbolizes the plight of millions of greyhounds worldwide that have been exploited for profit and murdered when they are no longer bringing in money.

Our sweet boy spent years on death row, yet he held no grudges. Instead, he met each day with joy, always greeting everyone he encountered with a happy wag of his tail and a big smile. He taught us so much about true love and forgiveness. We hope readers will find inspiration in our chronicle, and perhaps discover their own paths for making positive change in the world.

In 2018, GREY2K USA Worldwide led the "Protect Dogs * Yes on 13" campaign to outlaw dog racing in Florida. Voters supported the measure by a margin of 69%-31% statewide, ordering the closure of twelve historic dog tracks!
