Over the third week in January 2024, GREY2K USA Worldwide founders Christine Dorchak and Carey Theil traveled to Edinburgh and hosted a Parliamentary Exhibition in support of ending dog racing in Scotland. Held in the Garden Lobby of the Holyrood, they spoke to one third of all Members of Scottish Parliament!
In the backdrop of a giant panel identifying all the tracks worldwide, MSPs came to understand that cruelty to greyhounds is a world problem that they can help solve. Meanwhile, nationwide polling shows that 60% of Scots support the end of dog racing.
Twenty-five MSPs signed a pledge to support legislation to phase out dog racing. Shawfield in Glasgow has already shut its doors so only Thornton Stadium remains. Sponsor Mark Ruskell joined Christine and Carey as they answered questions, provided materials and handed out greyhound cupcakes to lawmakers!
The following week, Mark Ruskell MSP announced his Member's Bill and a commentary on the importance of ending dog racing by GREY2K USA Worldwide President Christine Dorchak appeared in the Herald on February 9, 2024.
