June 4, 2011 (Oracle, Arizona) -- Supporters joined the GREY2K USA Board of Directors at the C.O.D. Ranch for a night of Southwestern dining and to honor this year’s leading advocates for greyhounds.
Representative Dana Young was named "Legislator of the Year" for filing Florida's first stand-alone bill to phase out greyhound racing. Also honored were co-sponsor Senator Maria Sachs, Senator Don Gaetz, Representative Joe Abruzzo and volunteer Chuck Danielian of Naples for successfully promoting this important legislation through the House and Senate.
Lawmakers from three other states also received Greyhound Leadership awards.
Representative Nancy Young Wright and Representative Vic Williams both of Arizona received awards for their work to end dog racing at Tucson Greyhound Park. Representative Mary Mascher of Iowa was honored for filing and refiling a bill to decouple dog racing from other forms of gambling in her state. Senator Stewart Greenleaf was honored for his bill to prohibit simulcast wagering on dog racing in Pennsylvania.
Other award recipients present included Kari Ninestedt, Arizona State Director for the Humane Society of the United States as well as GREY2K USA Directors Caryn Wood of Gilbert and Karyn Zoldan of Tucson, Arizona.
