Dear Friends,
I am writing to give you an update on our fight to end dog racing in Florida.
Yesterday afternoon, our proposals for greyhound decoupling and injury reporting were delayed when lawmakers unexpectedly adjourned the regular legislative session three days early.
Thankfully, a special session to pass the state budget and related fiscal issues will be called as soon as June 1. Our bill for greyhound decoupling, which will save the state as much as $3.3 million a year, should be heard at that time.
For the moment, we hope you will join us in thanking several key lawmakers, Republican and Democrat, who are working together to fight for greyhounds. Senators Don Gaetz, Eleanor Sobel, Maria Sachs and Representatives Dana Young, Matt Gaetz, Marlene O’Toole and Jared Moskowitz all deserve our recognition. Please click on their links and give them a special thank you on behalf of the greyhounds.
We live to fight another day for the greyhounds -- and we will! Stay tuned for updates and more ways to help.
For the greyhounds,
