A greyhound named Maggie

Dear Friends,

Last week as I traveled around the country to deliver the first-ever report on greyhound racing in the United States, supporters like you posted photos and stories that reminded me of why we fight so hard to end dog racing. From Florida, a supporter named Melanie shared that her greyhound Maggie broke her leg during her final race. After bone grafting, plates and screws for repair, she still holds her leg off the ground most of the time.

It is our dream to end greyhound racing so dogs like Maggie will never suffer again…and I hope you will help.

Have you read High Stakes, our first-ever report on greyhound racing in the United States? For the first time ever, we have revealed the full scope of suffering that greyhounds endure, in documented figures and heartbreaking photos.

In fact, 80,000 greyhounds have been born into this cruel industry just since 2008. What happened to the majority of these dogs is unknown, because the National Greyhound Association does not keep track of them after they stop winning.

Executive Director Carey Theil and I have just come back from a ten-day tour, releasing our findings to lawmakers in every racing state, meeting with editorial boards, speaking before grassroots groups and working to spread the word that greyhound racing must end! This resulted in TV coverage plus dozens of news stories in Alabama, Iowa, Oregon and of course Florida, the heart of this cruel industry. See a selection of stories here.

Here's how you can take action to help the greyhounds today:

Make a donation now and it will be doubled, but only through tomorrow at midnight. One of our kind supporters has pledged to match every gift up to $15,000. Please help us to fully benefit from this generous offer. Every dollar donated brings the greyhounds one step closer to freedom. But since your gift will be doubled, this time you can make it two!

Please sign our petition to the governors of the seven racing states and ask them to support legislation to phase out dog racing. So far, over 160,000 people have signed on, generating immediate e-mails to decision makers nationwide.

Order a hard copy of our groundbreaking report High Stakes now. Share it with others and help more people learn about the humane and economic problems caused by greyhound racing.

Finally, help raise awareness about the reality of greyhound racing by posting a photo of your dog and telling his or her special story from racetrack to rescue.

For the greyhounds,
