New tax break for dog racing must be stopped!

Dear Friends,

Would you give a tax break to an industry that kills 3,000 dogs each year?

That is what the New South Wales government will ask itself when it considers the recommendations of its Select Committee on Greyhound Racing. If bureaucrats get their way, the tax rate on race wagering will be reduced by 60% and millions of extra dollars will flow to the greyhound racing industry to promote its deadly activity. The cost to the community: almost $100 million in lost tax revenue every year!

This plan would be a double curse for greyhounds since the state government has now washed its hands of any responsibility for their welfare. In fact, the government has left greyhounds completely dependent on the very industry that admits killing them in droves each year.

But there is still time to block this proposed tax break on cruelty. The Select Committee itself has stated that it is "difficult" to justify this plan as being in the interest of the NSW community. And you and I know that propping up dog racing is certainly not in the interest of greyhounds!

We need to act now.

The government has six months to consider the recommendations. Clearly, with a state election coming up in March 2015, politicians will be keen to listen to community views.

Please sign our petition and inform both the NSW Premier Mike Baird and Minister for Racing Troy Grant that government support for a dog killing industry must end now.

For the greyhounds,

Jeroen
