Sign petition to expose cruelty of dog racing in Iowa

Dear Friends,

Did you know that twenty-four greyhounds just died and nearly 200 injuries were recently reported at Dubuque and Bluff's Run Greyhound Parks? Read the news in this weekend's Des Moines Register.

According to state records obtained by GREY2K USA, most of the injuries recorded were broken legs.Other disclosed injuries included sprains, tears, a fractured skull and even a broken neck. Dude, Lilac, Geniusindisguise, Bucky and Rausch were all young greyhounds who deserved to live -- and to be loved -- like other dogs.  But they never got that chance.
Please read our full report here.

Thankfully, there is a solution! In each of the last three years, "decoupling" legislation has been introduced to remove the live racing mandate and to allow the tracks to close their kennels.

Under current law, the two facilities (now operating as Mystique Casino and Horseshoe Council Bluffs) must not only offer greyhound races to stay open but also must subsidize greyhound breeding with millions in casino profits. As a result of this bad public policy, greyhound racing is being artificially propped up even though actual interest is in steep decline.

You can help pass legislation to change this now.

Sign our petition to Iowa Governor Terry Brandstad and ask him to back a renewed push for dog racing decoupling in his state. You may also write him a letter or call him with the information below:

Thanks for caring about greyhounds like me!
