URGENT! Calls needed to end greyhound racing

Dear Friends,

We all remember the wonderful moment when Question 3, the Greyhound Protection Act passed into law. In November 2008, Massachusetts citizens went to the polls and overwhelmingly voted to outlaw all forms of gambling on greyhound races.

But part of this historic victory is now under threat and the greyhounds need your help again now.

Senate 175, a Gaming Commission bill to be heard on Tuesday, October 31, would allow local racetracks to permanently offer millions of dollars of betting on dog races taking place in other states. Called “simulcasting,” Question 3 prohibited this activity but the legislature has allowed it to continue on a “temporary” basis for years.

Enough is enough! It is time for lawmakers to honor the will of the voters. Massachusetts citizens do not want to support dog racing here or anywhere else. That's how we voted.

Read our full fact sheet and then please call every Senator this week. If you have time for just one or two calls, please contact your own state senator and Senate President Stanley Rosenberg now.

Tell them that you support an amendment to remove the authorization for simulcasting from Senate Bill 175 and that you want them to sign onto a letter of support from Senator Patricia Jehlen. Senator Patricia Jehlen has been trying to stop dog racing for years and is ready to help again now.

By allowing people in our state to place wagers on deadly and fixed racing taking place in Florida and other states, we are betting on cruelty and defying the will of the voters at large. Read our bill fact sheet for more talking points.

Finally, if you are willing to attend next Tuesday’s hearing, please contact us at info@grey2kusa.org.
