Dear Friends,
Over the next few months, Florida lawmakers will vote on changing the state's gambling laws. Some of these changes will affect greyhound racing, and can either help or hurt thousands of dogs.
That is why I need your help. Working with other animal protection groups, GREY2K USA is fighting for two important greyhound protection measures. First, we are asking lawmakers to pass greyhound decoupling. This humane proposal will remove the state dog racing mandate, a terrible law that has become a subsidy program for out of state greyhound breeders. Decoupling will significantly reduce dog racing in the state, causing fewer dogs to suffer injuries and endure lives of confinement.
In addition to decoupling, we are calling on lawmakers to require that greyhound injuries be reported to the public. Florida is now only one of two states, along with Alabama, that does not report this information. This is a common sense proposal that that will save greyhound lives.
Help us fight for these two important laws by contacting the Florida Senate Gaming Committee today. You can submit your comment in favor of protecting greyhounds by using this form on the Committee's website.
Please tell the Committee that the humane treatment of greyhounds is important to you, and that you support greyhound decoupling and greyhound injury reporting.
Then, forward this e-mail to everyone in Florida that you know. Let's make sure that the Gaming Committee hears from everyone in the state who cares about greyhounds.
Together, we can make a difference for the dogs!
