In the next few weeks, the Texas Racing Commission will vote on a proposal to legalize "Instant Racing" slot machines at Texas racetracks, including Gulf Greyhound Park. If this passes, the cruelty of greyhound racing will be subsidized with millions in slot machine gambling profits.

Please e-mail the Texas Racing Commissioners today, and urge them to vote NO on "Instant Racing." This is the only way for your comments to count. You should send your e-mail to:

When writing your letter, consider emphasizing the following points.

• Greyhound racing is cruel and inhumane and should not be subsidized with slot machine profits.
  
  
• Hundreds of greyhounds endure lives of confinement at Gulf Greyhound Park. They are kept in warehouse style kennels, in small cages that are barely large enough for them to stand up or turn around.
  
  
• More than two thousand greyhound injuries have been reported at Gulf Greyhound Park since 2008, including 86 greyhounds that died or were euthanized.
  
  
• Greyhound racing is dying in Texas. Between 2007 and 2012, gambling on live dog racing in the state declined by 61%.
  
  
• Despite what racetrack owners claim, "Instant Racing" machines are not a form of pari-mutuel betting. They are a type of slot machine that can only be legalized by the voters.

Finally, after you send your e-mail, forward this message to everyone you know who cares about dogs. Together, we can give the greyhounds a voice in Texas and defeat this dangerous proposal.
