** Urgent Action Alert **
Thanks to your calls to Arizona Senate President Andy Biggs on Thursday, SB 1146 passed unanimously at midnight! This important legislation increases penalties against licensees who violate racing rules (including humane rules) from $1,000 to $2,500 per act, and as amended in the House by Speaker Andy Tobin, also requires Tucson Greyhound Park to again begin disclosing greyhound injuries to the public.
That's right, after nearly three years of hiding greyhound injuries, Tucson Greyhound Park would be statutorily required to open up its records to the public! Please take a moment to thank Speaker Tobin for his hard work. He is a true greyhound hero, and literally championed this measure throughout the night.
After passage, he sent the following message to GREY2K USA supporters:
"It was always my priority to help our animals. I am thankful we got this done
but I can't take credit alone. It's a team effort. Without you, I couldn't have been successful! Andy"
Please e-mail your heartfelt thanks to Speaker Tobin at firstname.lastname@example.org.
But our work is not yet done! Your help is needed to ask Governor Jan Brewer to sign SB 1146 into law.
Please contact her online today or call (602) 542-4331. Let Governor Brewer know that like other state regulated businesses, dog racing should be transparent. Additionally, the higher punishments available under SB 1146 will serve as a deterrent for those who would otherwise harm greyhounds. For the sake of good government and greyhound protection, she should put her signature on SB 1146 today.
We are so close. Please help now.
