This is a video you need to share

tx videoDear Friends,

GREY2K USA has just obtained footage of the final races of three dogs who recently died at Gulf Greyhound Park in Texas. Fortune Teller, Lawnmower Man and Bob's Skeeter were just two and three years old. Watch the video here.

According to state records, eleven dogs died while racing or were destroyed after suffering injuries at Gulf in 2012. A total of 291 greyhound injuries were reported, including dogs that suffered broken legs, dislocations, torn muscles and puncture wounds.

chartTX2012This year, GREY2K USA published a report on greyhound racing in the Lone Star State, revealing that

  • hundreds of greyhounds endure lives of terrible confinement at Gulf Greyhound Park

  • racing dogs are fed diseased 4-D meat to reduce overhead costs

  • 1,507 greyhound racing injuries were reported between January 2008 and December 2011; 56 injuries resulted in death

  • the total amount gambled on live racing in Texas declined by 61% in the last 5 reported years

  • a trainer surrendered his license after he was caught on video using live rabbits as bait for greyhounds

Truly, as long as greyhound racing continues in Texas or anywhere in the world, greyhounds will suffer. I was once a racing dog myself and I know what it is like not to have a real home, to suffer injuries and to live in a barren cage.
