Dear Friends,
The last several years have seen a succession of track closures. In the United States alone, twenty-eight tracks have recently closed for live racing, more than cutting the dog racing industry in half. Thankfully the number of dogs bred for this cruel business has also been more than halved. Read more here.
We are now happy to report that many former dog tracks have been redeveloped for the community good. Following the end of racing at Mile High, the Colorado track was razed and became the new home of a Boys and Girls Club. Two Florida tracks, Seminole Greyhound Park and Key West Kennel Club were also demolished to make way for the creation of hundreds of homes, a town center, church auditorium and 20-acre park. Wisconsin's St. Croix dog track property was sold to the Hudson School District for a new school complex. Also of note was the leveling of Shoreline Star of Connecticut for a municipal building and new animal adoption center!
Thankfully, progress is also occurring overseas. Portsmouth dog track as well as Walthamstow, two of England's oldest dog tracks, are now both closed and plans are underway to create new jobs and build thousands of homes on the properties.
To celebrate this "greyt" progress and to help raise needed funds for our continuing fight, we invite you to participate in our new campaign auction. We have just received some very interesting greyhound-themed items, including a one-of-a-kind Life Magazine print, sterling silver pin and other precious jewelry, handmade notecards and the cutest crocheted greyhound dog ever! Every item was donated by wonderful volunteers just like you.
Help end dog racing and bring new life to communities nationwide by bidding today. Our campaign auction ends Wednesday, June 4 at 3 PM, so place your bids now.
