We Worked Too Hard in MA to Let Cruelty Continue

Dear Friends,

Did you know Massachusetts is still one of the top states supporting the cruelty of greyhound racing? Every year, gamblers in the Bay State bet tens of millions of dollars on dog races that occur in other states like Florida, Arkansas and Alabama.

Six years ago, we worked together to end greyhound racing. Our ballot question also ended greyhound "simulcast" betting, where local gamblers bet on races from other states. But the politicians on Beacon Hill did not listen to us. Instead, they made a backroom deal as part of the casino bill, and extended greyhound simulcast gambling for years. We have tried repeatedly to end greyhound simulcasting in the legislature, and are still urging lawmakers to do the right thing. But so far, they have not listened. Are we going to let them get away with this?

Thankfully, a local grassroots group named Repeal the Casino Deal has filed a ballot question to roll back the casino law. As part of their referendum, the organizers have included a prohibition on greyhound simulcast gambling.

It is absolutely imperative that everyone in the state who cares about greyhounds support this effort. This is our new chance to finally end dog racing in every form in our state. It will also deal the national greyhound racing industry a major blow.

To put this important ballot question before voters, we must collect another 25,000 signatures by early June. Please get involved in the signature campaign, even if it just means signing the petition yourself. You can download the petition here, or contact campaign manager Darek Barcikowski to obtain signature sheets. He can be reached at 617-869-0601 or by email at repealcampaignmanager@gmail.com.

Please note that if you choose to print petition sheets yourself, they must be precise copies of the sheets that were given to the campaign by the Secretary of State. Otherwise, they may not count.

When we worked together to end greyhound racing, you demonstrated real leadership. Now we need to stand up for the dogs again. Please join this important effort, and help move us closer to the day when greyhound cruelty ends everywhere.
