URGENT: Budget Vote Tomorrow (Tuesday). Ask Lawmakers to Vote YES!
Dear Friends:
Tomorrow (Tuesday April 13), the Rhode Island House of Representatives will vote on a budget that contains language to make dog racing illegal in the state! This could be the biggest day ever for the greyhounds and we need your help NOW.
Please call your State Representative TONIGHT and ask him or her to VOTE YES on the budget. Click here to identify your state representative.
Background: As reported previously, Twin River, Rhode Island’s only dog track, declared bankruptcy and announced the voluntary end to dog racing as of August 8, 2009. However, current licensing law mandates that the track offer 125 days of live racing each year, so a change in the law is needed in order to prevent the resumption of dog racing before a potential start-up later this month. The budget being voted on tomorrow contains language to remove this requirement.

Remember to contact your state “Representative in General Assembly” (not your Federal representative). Ask that he or she VOTE YES on the budget TOMORROW. Make sure that your representative knows how important it is that dog racing be prohibited in Rhode Island now, before this cruelty is allowed to resume.
Once Twin River is released from its requirement to offer live racing, there will be just seven states remaining where dog racing is legal and operational: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Texas and West Virginia. We are committed to ending dog racing in these states as well.
Please help spread the word about this national fight by ordering a campaign bumper sticker, button or t-shirt today. Every purchase directly supports our efforts to end dog racing across the country.
For the greyhounds,

Christine Dorchak and Carey Theil
