Dear Friends,
With your help, SB 1282 may soon get a makeover! As written, this dangerous dog track bill would pre-empt and forbid all local referenda and citizens actions to help greyhounds!
The bill passed with little objection in the Senate last month, but now the House is looking to not only strike the pre-emption language but to add full injury reporting. Yet another amendment would repeal the tax credit that Tucson Greyhound Park has been allowed to take since 1995! Last year alone, the track was excused from paying nearly $322,000 to the state.
SB 1282 will be introduced on the House Floor today so please call and e-mail now.
Please ask your state representative to do the following three things:
- Repeal the pre-emption language intended to stifle public input about the cruelty of dog racing
- Support an amendment to re-institute full reporting of greyhound injuries and deaths. In states where injury reporting has passed into law, adoption has doubled. Injury reporting literally saves lives.
- Support an amendment to repeal the long-standing tax break given to Tucson Greyhound Park. TGP should stand or fall on its own and not receive special favors to keep it afloat.

SB 1282 was filed to put a lid on citizen activism for greyhounds in Arizona, but now we have an opportunity to turn things around to help them. Please make your calls and send your e-mails today!
