Urgent! Kansas Dog Tracks Gearing to Re-open.
Dear Friends:
After closing its doors in 2008, the The Woodlands has filed a bill to resume dog racing! The long-closed Wichita and Camptown Greyhound Parks would also re-open if this dangerous measure passes.
According to state records, in the last six-month season at the Woodlands, eighty dogs were injured. The majority of injuries were broken legs. Nineteen dogs were euthanized or died while racing, including:
A young dog named Dodge the Smoke who suffered a ruptured vessel, collapsed and died right on the track.
PA’s Anthrax who was “tangled up” in the third turn, broke his foot and was euthanized post-race “per (his) trainer’s request.”
Dutch Gangster, one of the last dogs to be injured that year, was degloved—the tail of his skin literally ripped off as he left the starting box.
We can’t let this cruelty come back to Kansas!
HB 2180 gives track owners a giveaway tax rate, which would usher in the return of dog racing to the state. The Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee has already passed out the bill by a margin of 5-4 and a full Senate debate will happen soon.
Please contact your State Senator NOW and ask for a NO Vote on HB 2180. To find your State Senator, click here.
Pro-racing advocates are working hard to pass this measure, so we must redouble our efforts to protect the greyhounds. They need us all urgently!
Please make your calls today. The greyhounds can’t speak for themselves and we are their only defense.
For the greyhounds,
