GREY2K USA Action Alert

West Virginia Injury Records Released

Even though GREY2K USA has recently won several important victories for the greyhounds, that does not mean our work is over. In fact, we are working harder than ever to end the cruelty of dog racing in the eight remaining states in which it exists.

Just today, we released new reports that document a staggering rate of greyhound injury at Wheeling Island dog track in West Virginia. According to state records, more than 700 greyhounds have been injured at this track since 2008, and 62 dogs have died. Also, more than 1,000 dogs were prevented from racing because of lameness or injury.

These new reports also tell the sad story of dogs that suffered and died. For example:

  • On July 1, 2009 a greyhound died after being hit by the mechanical lure and suffering head trauma and seizures.
  • On September 2, 2009 a dog was euthanized after suffering a spinal cord injury.
  • On September 4, 2009 a greyhound was euthanized after suffering a broken leg. On the same day, another dog collapsed after a race and died.

We must keep fighting until this cruelty ends.

Please forward this e-mail to everyone you know. Let's make sure that as many people as possible know about this cruelty.

Then make a generous online donation to support our ongoing work. The greyhounds in West Virginia need our help, and we intend to finally give them a voice.

For the greyhounds,

Christine Dorchak and Carey Theil
